Samarinda, East Kalimantan (ANTARA) - East Kalimantan's Samarinda Regional Inflation Control Task Force (TPID) has been deemed the most effective in controlling the inflation rate in the region, head of the East Kalimantan branch of Bank Indonesia, Tutuk Cahyono, reported.

"There are many indicators we have considered before accrediting Samarinda's TPID as the most effective in Kalimantan region, one of the indicators assessed is the inflation control method taken by the task force," Cahyono informed in Samarinda on Thursday.

Besides the inflation control method, Bank Indonesia also assessed the actual inflation rate in the region, the monthly report presented by the task force, and initiatives to cooperate with related authorities, including Bank Indonesia's East Kalimantan branch, he added.

Since March 2020, all regions in Indonesia have been equally affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, hence TPIDs' role in inflation control and commodity distribution in the region is essential, Cahyono remarked.

"TPIDs' innovation to assure a smooth commodity distribution in their region is needed to control the inflation rate. They should maintain communication and cooperation with the authority and other relevant bodies to stabilize commodity price and prevent its scarcity," he said.

The assessment of regional TPIDs' effectiveness was conducted by a centralized team comprising academics, economic experts, and officials from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Home Ministry, Cahyono disclosed.

The assessment was conducted in all Indonesian city and district TPIDs, with the TPIDs of five regions named the most effective, he added.

In the Kalimantan region, West Kutai district's TPID has also been deemed the most effective task force besides Samarinda's TPID, he said.

Outside Kalimantan, regional TPIDs deemed the most effective in controlling inflation are Tanah Datar district's TPID (West Sumatra) in Sumatra region, Blitar district's TPID (East Java) in Java-Bali region, Bone Bolango district's TPID (Gorontalo) in Sulawesi region, and Southeast Maluku district's TPID in Nusa Tenggara-Maluku-Papua region, he added.
