To support the PON National Games, the government has prepared KM Tidar docked at the Jayapura Port, as a floating centralized isolation and vaccination facility
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has readied the PT Pelni-owned Tidar passenger ship (KM Tidar) that functions as a floating isolation center for COVID-19 patients in Jayapura to support and ensure the success of the PON National Games in Papua.

"To support the PON National Games, the government has prepared KM Tidar docked at the Jayapura Port, as a floating centralized isolation and vaccination facility," COVID-19 Handling Task Force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito stated during a press conference monitored here, Friday.

KM Tidar has been operated to accommodate COVID-19 patients undergoing isolation in Jayapura since the end of last August. The ship is replete with supporting facilities and is monitored intensively by health workers.

To support the implementation of PON and as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 transmission, KM Tidar will continue to be alerted to accommodate COVID-19 patients undergoing isolation.

"This is a precautionary measure by the government on account of the fact that the implementation of PON will increase public activities," he remarked.

On the other hand, the government will also continue to take preventive efforts in Papua by ensuring that the community exercises discipline in implementing health protocols. Thus, the spread of COVID-19 in Papua can continue to be suppressed, and PON can be held successfully.

"Hence, it takes community commitment, so that the PON XX can run smoothly and be free of COVID-19," he affirmed.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy had earlier sought the participation of residents in Papua Province to accelerate vaccination ahead of the XX National Sports Week (PON) scheduled on October 2-15, 2021.

"I seek the participation of all residents of Papua to accelerate vaccination as currently, the vaccination rate is still 51 percent for the Papua region. If possible, it will reach 80 percent during the PON later," he remarked.

Effendy noted that the COVID-19 vaccination in Papua was not only aimed at controlling the number of COVID-19 cases but also for the success of the PON National Games.

The minister emphasized the need to accelerate vaccination, so that people can watch the match and support the athletes directly in every arena in Jayapura City, Jayapura District, Merauke District, and Timika.
