Jakarta (ANTARA) - The South Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office organized a batik fashion show, 'Pesona Hari Batik Nusantara', at Setu Babakan cultural village, Jagakarsa sub-district, on Thursday as part of efforts for recovering the economy.

The batik fashion show was a summit event to commemorate National Batik Day on October 2, 2021, officials said.

The fashion show was also held to support national economic recovery, South Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said in a statement received here on Friday.

The event was also held to encourage product quality improvement, development, and marketing, he added.

In marketing the product, some assistance needs to be provided by the government so that business players can continue to innovate and work creatively, the mayor said.

"I am very grateful for the event of 'Pesona Batik Nusantara' at South Jakarta, which presented batik fashion show competitions that were participated by (people from) sub-district and village levels," Munjirin expounded.

A batik clothing competition was also held online for the public, which was aimed to boost people's pride in wearing or using domestic products, he highlighted.

Chief of Jakarta Women and Children Empowerment Integrated Service Center Komariah Matali and chairwoman of South Jakarta Empowerment team and family welfare, Essie Feransi Munjirin, and other related officials also attended the event.

Matali welcomed and lauded the implementation of the activity.

"Even in the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain active, creative, and innovative in pursuing many strategic programs for supporting the realization of enriched, productive, and impactful Jakartans communities, especially in South Jakarta," she said.

Batik has been recognized by UNESCO as an Indonesian cultural heritage since October 2, 2009, she noted.

She said she believed that the event could raise awareness in the community to wear local batik so that batik makers become more eager for producing their best work.
