The spirit of Youth Pledge should never die out, it should never become dim, even for a moment,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani urged Indonesian youths to never stop speaking about diversity and unity—issues underlined by young nationalists in the Youth Pledge during the Second Youth Congress.

The acknowledgment of one motherland, one nation, and one language, pledged by Indonesian youth 93 years ago, should become the spirit of current youth, she remarked.

"The spirit of the Youth Pledge should never die out, it should never become dim, even for a moment," she noted in a statement issued here on Thursday on the commemoration of 93 years of the Youth Pledge.

"To this end, youth generation that will carry the nation's future should never be bored of talking about diversity and unity," the speaker said.

When Indonesians stop speaking about diversity that has become the source of power within unity, that would be the moment when seeds of discord start to grow, she said.

However, if Indonesians continue to maintain unity, then the nation can continue to move forward, she added.

Diversity should be a source of strength and unity, not discord, she remarked.

DPR, as an institution that represents the people, will fight every challenge to maintain the nation's unity, Maharani said.

The House will become the frontliner in maintaining the spirit of nationalism and unity by consistently voicing the interests of people across Indonesia, she expounded.

Because, much like what Indonesia's First President Soekarno said, the goal of building a nation is for the benefit of all people, she said.

"Not just for an individual, or for a group, or for the nobility, or for the rich, but for us all," she stressed.
