We have agreed that the sending of Indonesian workers to Malaysia must be done through a one-channel system.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed on a single-channel mechanism for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in the neighboring country.

For domestic workers, it has been agreed that each worker will only be employed in a household with a maximum of six family members, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah said here on Tuesday.

After a meeting with her Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Saravanan Murugan, she said both countries have agreed to work closely on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers.

"We have agreed that the sending of Indonesian workers to Malaysia must be done through a one-channel system," she said.

The one-channel system will integrate all placement processes, starting from workers' recruitment, preparation, departure, placement until their return to the home country, she explained.

The system will connect ministries and institutions in Indonesia with the related authorities in Malaysia, she informed.

The one-channel system will help both governments to monitor the placement process and lower the cost for workers' recruitment and placement, Fauziyah said.

The application of the system is expected to serve as a check on the illegal entry of Indonesian workers in Malaysia, she added.

On the issue of domestic workers, the minister said that both governments have agreed that domestic workers will only be employed for households with a maximum of six family members.

The salary and competency for babysitters and caregivers will be decided further, she said.

Malaysia will continue to cooperate with the Indonesian government to ensure the protection of its workers in the country, he added.
