"As per the agricultural grand design, sometime in the future, we will be able to meet 5 percent of our vegetable and fruit needs on our own,” chief of the Jakarta Provincial Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries Office, Suharini Elawati, said during a talk show that was broadcast on the YouTube account of the Jakarta provincial government on Wednesday.
One of the efforts to achieve the goal is planting horticultural plants such as fruits and vegetables on 30 percent of the green open space in the capital, she said.

"The agricultural grand design is expected to be completed in 2030. One of its contents is that 30 percent of green open space will be planted with horticultural plants such as vegetables and fruits," she added.
The Jakarta provincial government has formulated the agricultural grand design and has been implementing it in stages since 2018. Hopefully, it will help the city reduce its dependence on vegetables and fruits from other regions.

The project will also add to oxygen production in the capital, she added.
"Don't be surprised if sometime in the future we will look at butterflies flying at our homes and hearing bird sounds around us. This means that the air in our environment is getting better," she said.
