We will conduct patrols to monitor several places susceptible to public order issues
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) will monitor alcohol distribution and public order during the Ramadan fasting month in April 2022.

"We will conduct patrols to monitor several places susceptible to public order issues. We will educate, remind, and hand over (the offender) to the Social Affairs office (during the operation)," Satpol PP Head Arifin stated here on Monday.

To ensure readiness in conducting the public order monitoring operation during Ramadan, the Satpol PP organised an assembly at the National Monument (Monas) , Central Jakarta, he remarked.

Apart from monitoring the distribution of alcohol and liquor among members of the public, the agency will keep an eye on potential public order issues at susceptible locations, he noted.

"We instruct (Satpol PP officers) to remind and educate Jakarta's residents to ensure an orderly and comfortable city during the Ramadan period and to ensure that residents can perform their fasting ritual in safety and tranquility," Arifin remarked.

He highlighted that adherence to health protocols would also be the focus of the agency during the operation.

"We will not be arrogant and high-handed in conducting our monitoring since we must continue to educate and remind residents to observe regional regulations," he affirmed.

Arifin confirmed that apart from the Satpol PP, officers from the military and police would also participate in a joint team to conduct the security monitoring operation.

The joint team will be deployed to conduct intensive patrols as a precautionary measure against possible public order disruption and violations, he stated.

"Despite our COVID-19 pandemic situation having largely improved, we must continue to adhere to health protocols. Firm action, as stipulated in regional regulations, will be enforced during the operation," he emphasized.
