Jakarta (ANTARA) - The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Lestari Moerdijat assessed that the 2022 Eid al-Fitr collective leave days present an opportunity for reviving the economy in regions while still prioritizing alertness against COVID-19.

Moerdijat remarked that mass mobility during the Eid holidays would have a significant economic impact on regions in the country.

Nevertheless, she reminded that several parties, such as stakeholders at the central and regional levels, must take precautionary measures.

In addition, Moerdijat noted that the preparation of facilities and infrastructure to support the homecoming exodus, such as the readiness of roads, fuel supply, and security forces, must be ensured to support the smooth running of the exodus.

She highlighted the importance of adequate preparations, so that the homecoming exodus, which is expected to help regions to revive, will not turn into a disaster instead.

To this end, the MPR deputy speaker assessed that support from the community is paramount to ensuring the security and the smooth running of the 2022 Eid homecoming exodus.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had declared April 29 and May 4, 5, 6, 2022, as collective leave days for the Eid al-Fitr period, which will fall on May 2–3.

"The government has decided that Eid al-Fitr 1443 H days will be on May 2–3, 2022, and collective leave days for the Eid al-Fitr period will be on April 29, and May 4, 5, 6, 2022," the president noted in an online press statement, issued from the Bogor Palace, West Java, on Wednesday.

According to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation in March 2022, as many as 74.9 million people are planning to join the 2022 Eid homecoming exodus.
