The fire, which broke out at 8:51 a.m. local time, is believed to have originated from the house of an agent selling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders.
"Based on information from residents who looked at and heard an explosion in the house of the 3-kilogram LPG cylinder agent, the house was left by its occupant (when the fire broke out)," chief of the operations section of the East Jakarta Fire Control and Rescue Office, Gatot Sulaeman, informed.

Local residents tried to put out the blaze, but it continued to grow and spread to other buildings, he said.
“When the residents reported the fire, it had already become large. Six homes were gutted by the fire. To put out the blaze, we deployed 19 fire trucks and 95 firefighters to the scene,” he added.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire.
