If they want a larger wage, then just open a business
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucracy Reform Tjahjo Kumolo expressed regret over reports of hundreds of new state employees having resigned from their position after clearing the selection process.

The minister noted that the resigning employees have brought a burden to the government that has less number of new employees in proportion to the budget readied for the selection process.

"The government ought to have (all) state apparatus (vacancies filled) in proportion to the large budget, but because some employees are resigning, their position is (left) vacant again. Despite the large budget, the government now has fewer employees than that was expected," Kumolo stated here on Monday.

Regarding some reports that the new employees are resigning due to insufficient wages and incentives, the minister stated that state apparatus candidates must first comprehend the rights and obligations of their prospective jobs before signing up.

"Prospective state apparatuses must understand their expected monthly wage and incentives. If they want a larger wage, then just open a business," he remarked.

Kumolo noted that despite some positions offering monthly wage of less than Rp5 million (US$340), state apparatus would receive other incentives, such as overtime pay and a lifetime pension.

"Every month, they will receive their basic salary, (and although some positions) may offer less salary of below Rp5 million, they will also receive performance incentives, thirteenth and fourteenth salaries, lump-sum and overtime pay, as well as a lifetime pension," Kumolo stated.

The minister affirmed that the government is currently exerting efforts to improve the welfare of state apparatuses, including contract employees.

"President Joko Widodo is also routinely monitoring (efforts to) improve the welfare of state apparatus and contract state employees and (to maintain) their honor as government employees that are serving the people," he noted.

Meanwhile, the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) data as of Friday (May 27) recorded that some 100 new state apparatuses hired during the 2021 intake had resigned from their position.

The figure improved, from 105 resigning apparatus as of Friday (May 20), as some institutions have hired their replacements obtained from the selection result list, according to the BKN Head of Legal, Public Relations, and Cooperation Bureau Satya Pratama.
