Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) is exploring cooperation with Hungary for developing national sports and improving sports achievement.

The cooperation was discussed during the visit of the Hungarian Ambassador to Indonesia, Lilla Karsay, to the KOI Office here on Thursday.

The Hungarian government is offering 600 sports scholarship programs, including sports management and sports community bolstering scholarships.

Indonesia has a population of 270 million people and the two countries must be able to find promising talents and potential within the country, Karsay said in an official statement.

Hungary is ready to help with training as well as event promotion and teach Indonesia about how to hold events. There are many aspects that Hungary can help improve at every level, she remarked.

Meanwhile, KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari informed that the committee is still formulating the cooperation that will be agreed upon.

He said he expects the plan for cooperation with Hungary to be realized without delay and yield benefits for both countries.

This is especially important given that Hungary is one of the countries with quite a hefty gold collection at the Olympics.

For instance, Hungary bagged 6 gold medals during the Tokyo Olympics, taking its overall Olympic gold haul to 186.

"We certainly still have to explore what cooperation we can develop in order to yield benefits for the two countries," Oktohari said.

"Maybe we can do it by creating a special sports camp to improve the performance quality of our athletes, both in Indonesia or Hungary so that Indonesian athletes can train in Hungary or vice versa," he added.

The potential cooperation between Indonesia and Hungary will be taken up during a meeting in Budapest at the end of June.

The meeting will coincide with the 2022 Swimming World Championship, which is scheduled to be held from June 17 to July 3.
