Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is targeting the issuance of 100 thousand business identification numbers (NIB) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) per day.

"Before, there was the OSS (Online Single Submission), during which only two thousand permits were issued per day. Now, it has reached seven to eight thousand per day. However, I press for the issuance of 100 thousand permits per day,” President Jokowi stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

President Jokowi emphasized that business actors, especially MSMEs, must receive business identification numbers (NIB).

The head of state has ensured that the NIB application process is fast and free of cost.

"I have checked the NIB application process. The process is fast. I am happy that the NIB issued from August 2021 to July 2022 has reached 1.5 million," President Jokowi remarked.

President Jokowi said it was the responsibility of regional heads to meet the target of 100 thousand NIB per day.

The head of state drew attention to the fact that MSMEs had contributed significantly to the GDP in 2021, reaching 61 percent.

The number of MSMEs in 2021 had reached 65.4 million.

He called on his staff and local governments to leave no stone unturned in facilitating MSMEs.

"Hence, if the government does not take care of MSMEs, then it is a big mistake. (It is) because the contribution of MSMEs to the national economy is 61 percent. Moreover, 97 percent of the employment is in MSMEs, not in big (companies), and this needs to be noted," President Jokowi stated.

The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry has called on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to optimize the digital ecosystem amid the ongoing pandemic and digital disruption.

"The pandemic has expedited the digital transformation of MSMEs across the world, including Indonesia," the ministry's information technology development and business incubation assistant deputy, Cristina Agustin, earlier noted.

"After the pandemic, the need for MSMEs to optimize the digital ecosystem has become more inevitable," she affirmed.

Optimizing the digital ecosystem has become crucial since several pieces of research have shown that 80 percent of the MSMEs connected to the digital ecosystem have demonstrated better resiliency during the pandemic, she noted.

"In addition, the national economic recovery is inseparable from the contribution of MSMEs, considering that 99 percent of the business actors in Indonesia are MSMEs actors," she added.

"Hence, MSMEs should continue to grow and become capable of facing competition in the national and global markets," she stated.
