In a written statement received on Thursday, KPK's Public Information and Communication Service Head Chrystelina GS noted that the agency has three strategic approaches in eradicating corruption: education, prevention, and prosecution.
As a result, media management will be conducted by providing proportional emphasis to support the three strategies, she remarked.
During the meeting themed, "Empowering the Media’s Inclusion in the Fight against Corruption," she drew attention to mass media and social media management strategies in supporting corruption eradication.
Management of issues on the education and prevention strategy face a more difficult challenge, given that the media is more interested in raising prosecution issues.
To this end, the commission conducts various interesting program innovations through social media and other publication.
Meanwhile, acting spokesperson at the KPK in the Prevention Department Ipi Maryati Kuding also noted that coverage on prevention is just as important as corruption prosecution.
She cited as an example how the anti-graft body had empowered the media during the rescue program for Singkarak Lake as part of the corruption prevention efforts.
According to Presidential Regulation No. 60 of 2021 on National Priority Lake Rescue, Singkarak Lake, located in West Sumatra, is one of the 15 lakes that became a priority for recovery.
One reason is the frequent violations by certain parties at the lake that cause potential loss in the state's finances, thereby emerging as one of the methods of corruption.
The efforts to implement the rescue program for Singkarak Lake are quite complicated since it involves public officials that allow lake reclamation and destruction to occur, she explained.
As a result, the commission pushes the issue through media reporting, release, and discussion. The media then broadcast the effort to rescue the lake, she remarked.
This was done until the commitment to discontinue the illegal reclamation of Singkarak Lake was signed by the responsible parties, she stated.
