"I have been communicating from early (on) with the Jakarta Governor (on) how to integrate Jakarta MRT, Jakarta Commuterline, and intercity railway. We need to synergize this," Thohir said here on Monday.
As a measure to promote railway services integration, the authority is expanding Manggarai Station in South Jakarta to develop the station as a new intercity railway hub in Jakarta in place of Gambir Station in Central Jakarta, he informed.
"I and Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi have coordinated with each other to ensure that the commuter railway will be connected to the city center. As a transportation mode serving residents in the city center, we also need to integrate it with the MRT," the minister said.
He affirmed that the ministry will also integrate and synergize the Jakarta LRT and Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, as the LRT is serving inner-city locations and the high-speed railway serves inter-city routes.
Integration between railway services will be essential as the LRT system, with routes connecting the city center with suburban destinations, is expected to complement the high-speed railway that does not reach the city center and is focused on inter-city destinations, the minister added.
"There will be a (high-speed railway) station in Karawang, and I have discussed with (state-owned toll road operator) Jasa Marga about where the toll road exit must be placed because there must be a toll road exit to complement the station in Karawang," Thohir said.
