"However, we are aware that the market opportunity in the United States is still very open for Indonesian fishery results," the ministry's official, Pamuji Lestari, noted after meeting with FDA's representatives here, Monday.
Since 2020, Indonesia ranks second in terms of the market share of shrimps in the US, she stated.
To this end, the ministry seeks to improve this aspect by initiating the Regulatory Partnership Agreement (RPA) to boost the consumers' trust and demonstrate guaranteed quality and safety of Indonesian shrimps.

This cooperation is expected to further open market access in the US, she stated.
Moreover, the whole genome sequencing (WGS) feasibility visit will provide insights into the third-generation DNA sequencing technology while serving as a starting point for Indonesia to enter the world-class food security network, she stated.
The development of test method against diseases caused by food contamination has rapidly improved. This is due to demand for accuracy of the test result and speed of identification and tracing, Lestari remarked.
Indonesia strives to develop food security and quality assurance system and also international network to be able to support system harmonization and make Indonesia stand at par with major countries, she emphasized.

"This is implemented not just to support trade facilitation but it also serves as a means for technology, knowledge, and experience transfer," she explained.
Indonesia continues to meet market requirements, especially since the global consumer trend for fishery products currently accords greater priority to quality and safety aspects, she noted.
Moreover, requirements related to food security tend to be more stringent, she affirmed.
As a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Indonesia strives to uphold international standards in food security for exported fishery results. Until now, Indonesia's fishery products have been accepted in 171 countries, she stated.
