With the additional cases, the total number of COVID-19 infections in Indonesia since the first case was confirmed in the country in March 2020 had reached 6,497,786, according to the task force.
After Jakarta, the provinces that recorded the most number of new infections on Tuesday were West Java, 744 cases; East Java, 595 cases; and Banten, 409 cases.
On Tuesday, 2,071 patients recovered from the infection, taking the total count to 6,311,861 recoveries.
The task force data also showed that 32 patients succumbed to the virus on Tuesday. The total number of fatalities has touched 158,663.
Currently, 27,262 active cases or patients are still undergoing treatment and isolation. The figure showed an increase of 2,608 as compared to the figure recorded on Monday (October 31).
Furthermore, as many as 5,552 people were listed in the category of suspected cases as of Tuesday based on tests conducted on 76,289 specimens in laboratories across the country.
Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Health reported that the case count of the Omicron XBB sub-variant of COVID-19 in Indonesia had increased to eight.
“As of Thursday (October 27), there were four cases comprising two from overseas travel and two from local (transmission). However, yesterday, there were four additional cases, so, as of Sunday (October 30), we have eight cases of XBB in Indonesia,” Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Mohammad Syahril, stated in an online health broadcast on Monday.
According to the ministry’s data, as of Sunday, the eight cases include five cases from Jakarta and one each from Lampung, Kalimantan, and Bali.
Of the eight cases, two were found in people with a history of traveling abroad, while the other six contracted the virus from local transmission.
