We clarify that information about the prohibition of public events until December is not correct
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated that the authority will not prohibit public events as long as organizers adhere to health and security protocols.

"We clarify that information about the prohibition of public events until December is not correct. This issue is counterproductive to the music concert business in our country," Uno noted as per the statement received on Friday.

During the "The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno" on Thursday (November 10), the minister said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also allowed public events, including music concerts, to take place on grounds that organizers adhere to health and security protocols.

Uno said that the ministry is drafting a Cleanliness, Health, Safety, Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) guidebook to help event organizers establish appropriate health and security protocols for the event they organized.

He urged event organizers to conduct their work professionally, including by understanding the venue's carrying capacity and proper handling of possible surge in visitor numbers.

Event organizers must also establish an early warning system that could indicate the number of visitors attending the event at a particular venue to mitigate crowding risks and prepare emergency services and evacuation routes, the minister added.

While reiterating the ministry's commitment to facilitate event organizers, Uno said that the ministry would collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure safe public events and music concerts.

"We will collaborate with the police, the COVID-19 task force, and the health ministry. We will issue a recommendation letter (for event organizers), yet they must also obtain a crowd permit from the police," he said.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Deputy for Tourism Products and Event Organisation, Rizki Handayani, revealed that the ministry had organized a meeting to evaluate the event organization permit mechanism on Wednesday (November 9).

"The meeting is organized to evaluate and discuss with various parties and relevant stakeholders regarding steps to be taken to prevent (crowd) accidents in the future," Handayani stated.
