Jakarta (ANTARA) - The decision to restart the Indonesian League 1 football competition was partly since the Indonesian national team needed preparation, according to Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali.

"Last time, the government announced that League 1 would resume (after evaluation and recommendations). Besides that, our national team needs some things —they need competition, because there are events that require the national team's preparation," the minister stated after the plenary cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.

Amali emphasized that the national team should be ready since there would be some events going forward, such as the upcoming AFF Cup championship and the U-20 World Cup hosting.

He stressed that the national team's preparation depended on training and competition.

“The first readiness is training. That has been done under our coach, and even tryouts abroad. As for U2-0, they have been to Turkey and Spain. After that, the second (factor to readiness) is that there must be competition, so that their skills stay honed," the minister noted.

With the current regulations from the police, the League 1 competition would be very strict, especially in terms of spectators, he reiterated.

"Before the permit was issued by the police, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry and the Health Ministry inspected the venues for the match. However, currently, it is still without an audience. Hopefully, this will improve governance and the ecosystem in national football, so that this would also make future coaching good. That is all," he remarked.

The minister remarked that supporters would be arranged in accordance with the guidelines of Law Number 1 of 2022 on Sports.

It stipulates that football club supporters should be organized in a group, have proof of membership, and have funding to function as protection coverage if something happens to the members.

While waiting for the arrangement of the football support group, it was decided that the League 1 competition would roll without spectators.
