In 2022, Telkom conducted at least three programs that contribute to reducing the impacts of climate change, Hery Sustanto from Telkom's SGM Community Development Center noted through a statement, Tuesday.
These programs comprise Digital Assisted Forest Conservation, Mangrove Planting and Electronic Device Donation for Education (Eduvice).
"Through these three programs, Telkom continues to focus on achieving sustainable goals that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to climate change handling," he remarked.
"Not only prevention but environmental recovery and nurturing should also be watched out for," he added.
The Digital Assisted Forest Conservation is a provision of forest restoration and conservation aid to critical lands in Indonesia that currently reached 14 million hectares.
In addition to climate change mitigation, the program aims to return the function of nature as a means of water management and flood or sedimentation protection in the downstream areas.
The program is also undertaken to recover population dynamics as well as biodiversity and its ecosystem.
The program is undertaken using the Geographic Information System (GIS) system for the improvement of forest data to facilitate forest recovery as well as adequate short- and long-term planning.
The program is also used for estimation of forest growth, data collection on the number of forests and their types, as well as routine growth report of the reforestation result.
This program has been realized on 64.25 hectares spread out across eight conservation points across Indonesia.
Meanwhile, within the Mangrove Planting Program, a total of 30 thousand seeds have been planted in several cities: Semarang, Karimunjawa, Cirebon, Banten, and Magelang.
With the target conservation of four hectares, Telkom's commitment in the mangrove planting program aims to preserve the coral reef ecosystem and boost digital ecotourism with the Mangrove Conservation to Build Sustainable Eco Tourism Aid Program.
Lastly, in the Electronic Device Donation for Education (Eduvice), Telkom distributes electronic waste to be sorted and repaired by Telkom vocational school students.
This is undertaken, so that these hardware can be reused as digital learning media by schools or students who need them, especially those in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.
This electronic waste can be distributed through drop boxes in Telkom offices at the Graha Merah Putih in Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta; Telkom Multimedia Tower in Kebon Sirih; Witel Office in West Jakarta; and Graha Merah Putih Telkom in Japati, Bandung, West Java.
