We need good coordination between organizers of music festivals to ensure the schedule and performer line-ups will not conflict or be too close (to other events)
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology suggested organizers of music festivals to coordinate among themselves to maintain public enthusiasm for such events after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry's Director of Film, Music, and Media, Ahmad Mahendra, stated that organizers should be mindful of the interval between music festivals to prevent overcrowding of such events in one particular period.

"We need good coordination between organizers of music festivals to ensure the schedule and performer line-ups will not conflict or be too close (to other events)," Mahendra told ANTARA on Wednesday.

Mahendra remarked that the role of the event organizer association would be essential to prevent public boredom with music festivals, especially during the recovery of the national music industry after the pandemic.

The official then highlighted the need for work ethics in music festivals among promotors to enhance the quality and collaboration in the music performance industry to bolster services to music fans and the wider audience.

The mushrooming of music festivals is expected to encourage diversity in music festivals instead of making concerts become uniform, he stated.

"We need professional curators for music festivals, those who are not only selling music concerts (tickets) but also (striving) to develop public literacy and appreciation to the diversity of music in Indonesia," Mahendra noted.

Moreover, emerging music concerts in urban centres, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Bali, are expected to encourage the development of new musicians and genres to achieve regeneration and enrich Indonesia's music scene, he stated.

"Upcoming music concerts must also be a safe space from bullying and harassment, an inclusive common room, and embrace people with disability communities and the children," the ministry director remarked.
