Jakarta (ANTARA) - House Speaker Puan Maharani noted that currently, the House of Representatives was pursuing the Draft Bill on Mother and Child Welfare (RUU KIA) to offer a sense of security and peace for mothers and children.

The House of Representatives consistently makes efforts to ensure the welfare of mothers, through legislation, oversight of government policies, and budget support, Maharani noted in a written statement on Thursday.

"The Mother and Child Welfare Bill has strategic value in the efforts to maintain and improve the quality of Indonesia's human resources," she noted.

The speaker delivered the statement at the peak of the 94th Mother's Day commemoration hosted by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in Bengkulu on Thursday.

Through the bill, the state has an obligation to improve the quality of life of mothers and children, so they would gain physical and spiritual welfare, she remarked. To achieve this, all rights of mothers must be met, including no violence against women, either physical and verbal.

"It must be noted that happy mothers will raise great children," she noted.

The minister highlighted the importance of the state's guarantee in terms of mothers' welfare since they shoulder the responsibility of creating a new generation that would become the nation's hope.

"(It is) because these superior generations will advance Indonesia. They are the future of our nation and to create a superior generation of Indonesia, the role of mothers is very important. Hence, the welfare of mothers must be guaranteed," she stated.

Their welfare also plays a part in women's independence, which is required now and in the future. In particular, the minister advised young Indonesian women to pursue higher education that could become an asset for women in educating their children in future.

"(It is) because the most important education is taught from home, and it is the mother figure, who will have many contributions for her children. This is also the essence of empowered women for the sake of an advanced Indonesia," she stressed.

The minister also expected mothers to progress in the economic and social sectors, akin to the spirit of 2022 Mother's Day that revolves around the theme of empowered women and advanced Indonesia.
