Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government bolsters the younger generation's education of the importance of waste management and reduction of waste from its source through the writing and poster competition EUPHORIA.

Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment's official Rofi Alhanif stated that the competition is the continuation of last year's Ending Plastic Pollution Through Poster and Writing Contest for A Cleaner Indonesia (EUPHORIA).

"The current generation should inherit a cleaner and healthier earth for the next generation," he remarked through a statement on Friday.

During the event's highlight on Thursday, he explained that the competition was held as a platform to educate members of the younger generation to improve their awareness of the importance of waste management and waste reduction efforts.

The EUPHORIA competition was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology as well as Ocean Waste Handling National Coordination Team (TKN PSL).

On the occasion, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's Waste Handling Director Novrizal Tahar expected that the younger generation would maintain its spirit to reduce plastic waste in oceans.

"Behavioral changes in society start from the younger generation's literacy, especially children. Works that you children have created should truly be implemented in your day-to-day life, okay?" he emphasized.

The EUPHORIA competition is expected to serve as a platform for members of the younger generation to express their innovation, idea, and anxiety in the form of written works and posters.

The works of the competition's participants are expected to inspire teenagers and the younger generation to participate in campaigning for waste management in their homes and neighborhoods.

This is deemed crucial to achieve Indonesia's target of reducing waste up to 30 percent and reducing plastic waste in the oceans by 70 percent by 2025.
