Through research, which is the strength of higher education institutions, they can develop entrepreneurship with high competence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry is striving to achieve its entrepreneurship ratio target of 3.95 percent by 2024 through the “Great Campus Strong Entrepreneur” program.

The program is part of the “National Entrepreneurship Development” campaign for disseminating information on Presidential Regulation No. 2 of 2022 on national entrepreneurship development for the 2021–2024 period, entrepreneurship deputy at the ministry, Siti Azizah, said.

“A university is a very accurate institution to produce new innovative entrepreneurs," she noted in a statement issued on Thursday.

"Through research, which is the strength of higher education institutions, they can develop entrepreneurship with high competence," she said.

Based on official records, the number of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia has reached 64.2 million.

However, this figure is not yet directly proportional to Indonesia's entrepreneurship ratio, which is still low at 3.47 percent.

Azizah said that she expects universities to be capable of providing a learning space for students for practicing entrepreneurship, have assistance competence, and have the capability to create research-based inventions and innovations.

Meanwhile, mitigation action will be necessary next year, which is predicted to be full of uncertainties and challenges. Hence, the government needs to support efforts to improve entrepreneurs' competitiveness by building a national entrepreneurship ecosystem.

This ecosystem is expected to provide convenience and incentives and support the recovery of entrepreneurs, she explained.

Thus, it could produce future adaptive SMEs based on technology with well-educated actors, who, in the end, could raise the entrepreneurship ratio by 2024, she said.

Current and future entrepreneurs should continue to improve their own capacity and utilize every form of support in the form of programs, permit facilitation, equipment aid, and capital facilities given to them to develop their businesses, Azizah added.

Moreover, to achieve an entrepreneurship ratio of 3.95 percent and entrepreneurship growth of 4 percent by 2024, the ministry is also organizing entrepreneurship development workshops in various regions in Indonesia.
