Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology officially opened the 2023 National Selection for New University Students Acceptance (SNPMB) here Tuesday.

The new student acceptance in state university selection system differs from the previous acceptance system. The selection system, with the new format, is part of the Episode 22 of Merdeka Belajar (Freedom in Learning).

In the previous system, there were three acceptance routes.

These comprised the National Selection for State University Entrance (SNMPTN) based on selection of report grade and other achievements, Collective Selection for State University Entrance (SBMPTN) based on Computer-Based Exam (UTBK) and Independent Selection.

By contrast, the new university student acceptance selection or 2023 SNPMB has Achievement-Based National Selection (SNBP), Test-Based National Selection (SNBT), and Independent Selection.

This is based on Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministerial Regulation No. 48 of 2022 on Diploma and Bachelor Programs on State University New Student Acceptance.

Education, Research and Technology Director General at the Ministry Nizam noted that SNBP focuses on giving awards over the learning success in middle level education.

For SNBP, 50 percent of the evaluation depends on average grade of the entire subjects. This major hurdle is expected to encourage students to deliver high achievements across all subjects holistically.

Meanwhile, the rest of the 50 percent is taken from interest and talent component. This is done, so that students are encouraged to explore their interests and talents in depth.

"Within the SNBP route, prospective university students are encouraged to have holistic competence across different disciplines. Having various competencies is necessary for success in the future," Nizam explained.

In this case, state universities can determine the presentation composition for the average grade and interest as well as talent components. This decision can differ between each majors within the same state university.

Students that can participate in the test are 12th grade high school students in 2023 that have academic achievements and meet the requirements determined by the respective state universities.

They should also have the National Student Identification Number (NISN), should be registered in the School and Student Database (PDSS), and have report grade from the first to fifth semester recorded in the PDSS.

Meanwhile, those who choose art and sports programs are obligated to upload their portfolio.

For SNBT, there are no more subject tests, and instead, it focuses on reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Scholastic test only evaluates cognitive potential, mathematics reasoning, literacy in Indonesian language, and literacy in English language.

This test emphasizes students' reasoning capability and not memorization.

SNBT is based on UTBK that can be participated by high school students, who graduated in 2021, 2022, and 2023, or C package graduates, with the maximum age of 25 years, as per July 1, 2023.

"This year's test-based selection is special because vocational and academic will be integrated. This selection is undertaken by only registering and undergoing the test once," Nizam noted.

"It is very open, efficient, time and money saving for prospective university students and more efficient in terms of organizing," he stated.

Meanwhile, Vocational Education Director General Kiki Yuliati stated that her party supports the integration between state university new student selections both vocational and academic to make the Kampus Merdeka (Freedom in Campus) program a success.

"We expect that those in high school can be more open in choosing their education in university," she remarked.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the SNPMB Organizing Team Muhammad Ashari outlined that there are 137 SNPMB participants in 2023 that aim for 76 academic state universities, 43 vocational state universities, and 18 state Islamic universities.

Registration stage

SNBP and SNBT begin with the SNPMB account registration for schools and students on January 9, 2023, at 3 p.m. local time at https://portal.snpmb.bppp.kemdikbud.go.id.

The SNPMB account registration for schools will end on February 9, 2023.

The SNPMB account registration is intended for 2023 graduates, who will participate in SNBP, with the registration period ending on February 15, 2023.

For participants who will register for SNBT, the SNPMB account registration can be done from February 14 to February 28, 2023.

Students, who do not yet have an SNPMB account, are obligated to carry out account registration first on the website until the accounts are activated through the registered email.

Once they have an SNPMB account, students can immediately log in with their created accounts on the SNPMB portal.

Students thereafter choose the verification and validation menu, choose the data update button, and conduct data validation.

If the students' data is not valid, they need to report to their schools, so that the respective institutions can conduct data correction and report the results to the Education Management Information System (EMIS).

After their data is corrected, students can start logging in again and repeat the data validation steps.

Once their data is validated, the next stage involves filling the biodata, uploading their latest photo taken in the last three months, saving the results, and downloading the SNPMB account registration proof.

College Indonesia Smart Card scholarship (KIP-Kuliah) participants, specifically applicants from economically underprivileged families, can apply for the KIP Kuliah scheme education fund aid.
