Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the national police (Polri) has apprehended two fugitives, who had been absconding since November 2022, over an acute kidney failure case.

Head of Bareskrim's Directorate of Specific Crimes (Dittipidter) Brigadier General Pipit Rismanto named the two fugitives: President Director of CV Samudera Chemical Endis (E), alias Pidit, and Director of CV Samudera Chemical Andri Rukmana (AR).

"Both were arrested in Sukabumi, West Java, on January 20," Rismanto said in Jakarta, Monday.

He noted that with the arrest of the two suspects, his side could work on the case to establish two other suspects -- Alvio Ignasio Gustan (AIG) and Aris Sanjaya (AS) -- who were respectively the president director and director of CV Anugerah Perdana Gemilang (APG), partners of CV Samudera Chemical.

Directors of CV Samudera Chemical had earlier been named as suspects along with four other companies: PT Afi Farma (AF), PT Tirta Buana Kemindo (TBK), CV Anugerah Perdana Gemilang (APG), and PT Fari Jaya Pratama (FJ).

"In this case, we have charged five corporations and have arrested four suspects, including two people, who are fugitives," he revealed.

For the next step, the police intend to immediately complete the case file to be transferred to the public prosecutor (JPU) for trial.

Investigators from Bareskrim of the National Police had submitted one case file to the Attorney General's Office for the corporate suspect PT Afi Farma on January, 16, Monday. This is the second handover since the first one was returned due to incomplete data.

Rismanto noted that his side was still working on developments into the acute kidney failure case, including the possibility of adding new suspects, related to the negligence of the oversight function of the use of additives in medicinal raw materials.

In this case, CV Samudera Chemical is suspected of mixing Propylene Glycol (PG), a solvent for medicinal raw materials, which is contaminated with ethylene glycol (EG) and diethyl glycol (DEG) exceeding the safe threshold for consumption.

The threshold for EG/DEG contamination should have been 0.1 percent. However, nine drum samples found at CV Samudera Chemical were detected to contain 52 percent and some with 99-percent EG/DEG contamination.

"Regarding the possibility of a new suspect, for now, the case construction ends here. If we discover new findings, we will conduct an in-depth investigation," he remarked.
