Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry has affirmed that no form of violence, including verbal or mental, can be tolerated.

"All (forms of) domestic violence cannot be tolerated," the ministry's Assistant Deputy for Women's Rights in Household and Vulnerable Protection Eni Widiyanti said.

"In fact, verbal violence, in the eyes of the ministry, is not right," she said during a discussion themed "Prevent Women from Being Trapped in a Toxic Relationship with Possessive Men" here Friday.

Widiyanti underscored that women not experiencing physical violence though facing verbal or mental violence or experiencing abandonment are the victims of violence.

The ministry also rebutted the notion that such violence is conducted as an expression of love.

"There is no love expressed through violence, that never exists, so it must be wrong," she stressed.

The ministry urged victims of violence to be brave in reporting through the SAPA 129 service or to the government office that handles women and children in their local area.

The SAPA 129 service can be accessed through the call center number 129 and WhatsApp application through the number: 08111-129-129.

Widiyanti also called on victims of violence to give due thought to whether they are in an unhealthy relationship and immediately take further steps by ending it or requesting professional assistance.

"They can also ask assistance. If they cannot end it, they can go to the psychiatrist, ask for advice, or they can also go to the ministry as well as women and child protection office," she stated.

During the event, she also called on women to fully understand the personality of their significant other before taking any further step in their relationship to prevent unhealthy relationships and also domestic violence.
