Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial government is offering free exodus transportation for Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijri, with 6,500 free bus tickets and 5,954 free train tickets, especially for the province's residents.

"We ask the public to take advantage of this free Eid exodus opportunity so that their trip can be made more safe," head of the West Java Transportation Office A. Koswara said here on Tuesday.

The free Eid exodus program will be conducted on April 15–18, 2023, to help participants experience a safe, comfortable, and orderly homecoming trip.

West Javan residents who wish to take advantage of the free exodus program will need to register on the https://mudik-dishub.jabarprov.go.id website.

Registrations for local or short-haul train services will be opened on the KAI Access application and will be based on the existing regular service provisions.

Based on a survey, 87 percent of the total West Java population, or around 43.44 million people, will travel during the Eid holiday period. At least 43 percent of the expected travelers, or around 18.68 million, will travel for homecoming purposes.

Koswara said that high public mobility during the Eid holiday period is expected to cause traffic jams as private vehicles, especially motorcycles, are the most preferred transportation mode.

According to him, long-distance travel on motorcycles poses a high risk of road accidents.

One of the preparations made by the provincial government to anticipate the Eid exodus and return flows is improving the road infrastructure.

West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said that his administration is currently upgrading seven sections of provincial roads, spanning a total length of 17 kilometers, in Cirebon.

"We are repairing (seven) damaged provincial road (sections) in Cirebon with a length of 17 km," he informed on Sunday (April 2).

He assured that 10 km of the total under-repair 17-km road section may be completed before the tenth day before Eid (D-10), so people can navigate it safely during the exodus and return flows.
