Jakarta (ANTARA) - President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, reviewed the stocks and prices of food commodities at two markets in Jakarta ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijriah.

President Jokowi and his staff visited the Rawamangun Market in East Jakarta and Johar Baru Market in Central Jakarta, Wednesday.

"Eid is approaching. The minister of trade and I want to first check the stock, then the second is the price," the president stated when met at Pasar Johar Baru, Central Jakarta, Wednesday.

After conducting a review, Jokowi pointed to a reduction in the prices of several food commodities, such as chicken eggs, chicken meat, and rice, as well as of horticultural commodities, such as shallots and chilies.

The decline in prices was in line with the monitoring of the Central Bureau of Statistics that had recorded a deflation.

"This is good in the position of going to Lebaran, but I see the prices are dropping," Jokowi stated.

Based on monitoring conducted at the Johar Baru Market, the number of commodities experienced a price drop, such as the cost of chicken meat decreased, from Rp38 thousand to Rp33 thousand per kg.

Moreover, the price of chicken eggs decreased, from Rp30 thousand to Rp29 thousand per kg; cayenne peppers, from Rp90 thousand to Rp60 thousand per kg; shallots, from Rp60 thousand to Rp40 thousand per kg; and garlic, from Rp44 thousand to Rp40 thousand per kg.

Meanwhile, the price of beef remained stable in the range of Rp140 thousand to Rp160 thousand per kg.

During his visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan and Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
