Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, in his remarks read by his Special Staff for Village and Border Development in Sorong, Southwest Papua, Thursday, highlighted the crucial role that regional governments have to play in the preparation process for elections.
"Support from regional governments is required to ensure safety and order during the elections to thwart any potential conflicts that will undermine the nation's unity and integrity," he remarked during the Planning and Development Deliberation (Musrenbang) of Southwest Papua Province.
Karnavian emphasized the need for regional governments to be updated on the development of all stages conducted by the KPU in order to ensure the preparation process would run as planned.
"Regional governments should look after every stage to ensure the elections will run smoothly," he remarked.
Moreover, regional governments are obligated to facilitate the establishment of harmonious relations among all elections stakeholders.
"Comprehensive support is required to hold the elections and harmony is essential in drawing support from all parties," he remarked.
