Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani highlighted the importance of actualizing Pancasila values among youngsters to maintain the continuity and relevance of those values in responding to challenges and changing times.

"The implementation of Pancasila values is important in every aspect of life, starting from individuals, families, and communities to the nation as a whole," Maharani noted in a statement received here on Thursday.

The House speaker made the remarks during the Pancasila Day ceremony at the National Monument (Monas) complex, Jakarta. The birthday of Pancasila, the five fundamental principles of Indonesia, is commemorated on June 1 every year in the country.

According to Maharani, the younger generation should be reminded of the importance of fostering mutual cooperation, which is the essence of Pancasila.

To this end, the younger generation needs to understand Pancasila that unifies the nation with its diversity.

"To bind differences as one united nation, shared values are needed that are summarized in Pancasila," she stated.

The DPR speaker lauded the presence of Government Regulation Number 4 of 2022 on the National Standard of Education in a bid to encourage the instilling of Pancasila values among youngsters. Under the regulation, Pancasila becomes a mandatory subject in schools.

She assessed that more modern efforts are necessary to promote Pancasila to the younger generation, as substantial and theoretical understanding is not sufficient.

"As a critical generation and amid the progress of the digital era, the younger generation needs to display warmth and affection in actualizing Pancasila," she stated.

Maharani further said that the younger generation should be taught to be heedful of other people's views openly, respect differences, and try to find solutions that are inclusive and fair for all parties.

In addition, she appealed to the government to boost the learning of the Pancasila ideology among youngsters through social media, apart from conventional learning at educational institutions.

She expressed optimism that the younger generation would uphold the nation's fundamental values amid the current rapid pace of development.
