The minister made the statement after delivering a speech at a national dialogue at the National Police's (Polri's) Institution Staff and Leadership School in Lembang, West Bandung District, West Java, on Friday.
"We need superior police. In the history of human civilization, strong and successful countries have always been proven to wield superior and great police that are loved by their people," Subianto told journalists.
The minister noted that the entire Indonesian nation expects genuine dedication from Polri. Hence, to this end, he urged the Indonesian police to exert all-out efforts to become a superior and tough apparatus.
"My message earlier to the police personnel was to remind them that the whole nation is expecting their dedication. Be a superior police, be a formidable guardian, that was my message," he affirmed.

Minister Subianto also said that based on history, the Indonesian police was born as a result of the nation's struggles, so it was not formed by colonial powers.
"Our police took up arms to join the fight for our independence. The police fought hand in hand with all other elements of the nation," he stressed.
The statement then reminded the minister of his late uncle, who died while serving police duty.
"I am no one, but my uncle was a special police officer, and he died (on duty). This is why I know that the police took up arms to participate in battles," he stated.
According to Subianto, the police is a crucial component in the defense sector of the country, as it serves as the protector of the nation's safety and security.
"That was what I told them (police officers). They are the future of the Indonesian police," Subianto remarked after attending the dialogue themed "Fostering National Unity in Diversity."
