Jakarta (ANTARA) - The concept of Trisakti, initiated by the late President Soekarno, is still relevant to the current dynamics in Indonesia, according to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

"Current times, where changes happen rapidly with such intense complexity, have shown us that the Trisakti concept by Soekarno is very much relevant," Secretary of the ministry, Andie Megantara, stated during the Trisakti Revitalization discussion in Jakarta on Monday.

Trisakti, or three powers, is a monumental idea outlined by President Soekarno in his speech commemorating Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 1964, at the State Palace, the ministry's secretary remarked.

The concept is a call to revolution based on three powers: political sovereignty, economic independence, and a strong commitment to upholding culture, he explained.

The political revolution is expected to allow Indonesia to gain sovereignty in terms of political aspects by pursuing political changes through national power integrity born from state- and family-oriented democracy, he stated.

"As for the revolution of character and culture, in particular, (it means that) we have to be proud of our national identity, such as by upholding the spirit of collaboration that serves as social capital in strengthening political and economic solidarity," Megantara noted.

Soekarno's Trisakti concept was relevant to the era during which it was created, as Indonesia at that time was bombarded with neo-liberalist economic and political policies that tended to exacerbate socio-economic gaps as well as compromise national power and independence, he stated.

Megantara called for the need to elaborate on Soekarno's ideas and thoughts to fit with the current dynamics of the era in order to enable their proper implementation.

The first president saw that the Trisakti concept outlined three issues that should be addressed immediately by the state, he stated.

In the political context, Indonesia, at that time, could not show its existence as a nation due to strong political ties with colonizers after the post-colonial period, he said.

Regarding the economic aspect, Indonesia's efforts to build national economic independence were economically dependent on foreign forces, he pointed out.

Moreover, Indonesia's mentality had been greatly affected by imperialism, causing them to forget about collaboration as a means to improve national political and economic solidarity, he remarked.

"As a great nation, we have to be able to unite ourselves. Trisakti can be a part of our ways to show the existence and identity of Indonesians on the global scale," he remarked.

"We need to rediscover the conception and strategy to pursue Trisakti. Hence, the revitalization of Trisakti is a measure to create Indonesia as a just and prosperous nation in accordance with Pancasila," he concluded.
