In other words, safety is non-negotiableJakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi urged ministry officials and relevant stakeholders in the aviation sector to always accord priority to safety, as it is a non-negotiable aspect in the industry.
"In aviation, safety should be upheld and carried out properly. In other words, safety is non-negotiable," Sumadi stated at the 2023 technical coordination meeting organized by the ministry's Directorate General of Air Transport, as per the statement on Friday.
The ministry's officials should also maintain integrity while performing their duties to ensure that air transportation is managed properly for the residents' satisfaction, he emphasized.
"As state apparatus, integrity is a must. We should also avoid gratification," the minister remarked.
Sumadi called on all stakeholders in the air transport sector, such as regulators, operators, and other parties, to synergize in improving air connectivity and air transport service amid the ongoing post-pandemic recovery in the industry.
"With good synergy and active role of regulators and other stakeholders, such as regional authorities and entrepreneurs, we expect flight operations to continue to increase and help business and tourism sectors to recover," he affirmed.
According to Sumadi, optimization of air transport routes and networks should be pursued by all stakeholders to bolster connectivity to all regions nationwide.
The minister also underscored the need for prioritizing good service and providing a safe and comfortable flying experience to all people.
"Airports should improve their services through conducting beautification, applying environmental measures, and adopting a friendly approach toward passengers with special needs to realize airports that will provide safety, comfort, and added value to passengers," Sumadi stated.
Under the same agenda, Director General of Air Transport M. Kristi Endah Murni said strategies that can be pursued to bolster flight connectivity encompass improving airport facilities and opening new routes as well as reactivating those closed down due to the pandemic.
"On the business aspect, we should also encourage collaboration between airline companies, airport operators, and regional authorities in increasing the flight demand and maintaining connectivity," Murni stated.
She remarked that the need in air transport no longer revolves around merely safe and comfortable flights, as it has expanded to the added value in the form of environment-friendly and sustainable flights.
