"To execute development agendas, we will boost state revenue in 2024 by maintaining investment climate, business sector sustainability, environmental preservation," he said while delivering a speech on the 2024 state budget bill and financial notes in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He made the speech during the plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) for 2023–2024 in the DPR building.
In his speech, he highlighted the importance of boosting state revenue by implementing four strategies to increase revenue from tax, including maintaining the effectiveness of tax reforms with the objective of expanding the tax base, bolstering compliance, and scouting potential tax sources.
"Secondly, we need to make improvements in tax governance and administration," he said.
As for the third strategy, the President urged the related parties to implement the discourse on integrating the Indonesian citizens' identity card numbers (NIK) with taxpayer identification numbers (NPWP) in order to increase the taxation ratio.
He said that the final strategy concerns the need to distribute accurate and measurable tax incentives in the hopes of accelerating recovery, enhancing national investment competitiveness, and stimulating economic transformation.
Earlier, on the same day, President Widodo also delivered a speech at the 2023 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the 2023 Joint Session of the DPR and Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta.
MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo commenced the annual session by delivering an opening speech at 9:30 a.m. local time. Meanwhile, the plenary session of DPR began at 1 p.m.
It is estimated that as many as 1,549 invitees comprising ministers, political party leaders, Nusantara monarchs, and ambassadors of partner countries attended the annual session.
