Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi invited young Indonesians, particularly members of the Generation Z, to actively participate in the 2024 General Elections.

The minister said that the active participation of young voters in the upcoming elections is essential since he believes that they can determine the future of the nation.

"It should be noted that the fate and future of this nation lie in the hands of its young people. Hence, young people should participate (in the 2024 elections) to express their political aspirations," he remarked in Jakarta on Friday.

He stated that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) had been persistently encouraging the nation's young people to exercise their voting rights, including by implementing a digital literacy program aimed at promoting the Peaceful 2024 General Election narrative.

Earlier, in July this year, the ministry had organized an activity to edify Generation Z voters on ways to prudently respond to political contents circulating on social media platforms.

The ministry has been educating young voters to avoid negative contents that can divide the nation, with the objective of preventing the recurrence of public polarization that was observed before, during, and after the 2019 General Elections.

Moreover, the ministry has formulated several strategies to realize peaceful elections. One of the strategies is related to the ministry's efforts to echo the need for certain parties to maintain their neutrality before and during the elections.

Furthermore, the ministry has established cooperation with digital platforms, such as Meta, Google, and TikTok, to ward off hoaxes related to the elections.

Kominfo is also intensifying efforts to promote the peaceful elections narrative on social media to build young people's awareness of the importance of actively participating in the upcoming elections.
