Jakarta (ANTARA) - Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas has urged state civil servants to work well and enhance their performance as a form of gratitude for the national heroes' struggle.

"Every November 10, we commemorate National Heroes' Day. All of us, in this case, civil servants, should be able to inherit the spirit of struggle from the heroes who died defending the integrity of the nation and state," he said here on Friday.

He asked civil servants to emulate the spirit of struggle demonstrated by national heroes by doing their utmost to provide services that are impactful and can be felt by the community.

According to him, the spirit of the heroes' struggle in fighting for Indonesian independence must be exemplified by state servants.

In that way, civil servants could maintain their integrity and performance as well as eliminate sectoral egos.

"Civil servants with integrity are a form of gratitude for heroes who have fought sincerely," he said.

He expressed the hope that state servants across Indonesia would truly emulate the nation's heroes.

Therefore, he reminded that the commemoration of National Heroes Day is a momentum for self-introspection and reflection.

He said that civil servants must uphold the heroic spirit of seizing and maintaining state sovereignty.

According to him, state servants are the "glue and unifiers of the nation" and must be role models in implementing heroic and noble values.

He said that while emulating the nation's heroes, civil servants must strengthen the unity and solidity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

This year's Heroes Day was themed "Heroic Spirit for the Nation's Future in Fighting Poverty and Ignorance."

Earlier in the morning, President Joko Widodo led the Heroes Day ceremony at Jakarta's Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery.
