World Anti-Corruption Day falls on December 9 every year.
"Our resolve to connect Indonesia by developing transportation infrastructure must be complemented by the commitment to maintaining integrity and honesty," he noted in a statement received here from the Transportation Ministry on Friday.
Sumadi affirmed that public trust in the government's performance could go down significantly if civil servants, including those working at the Transportation Ministry, failed to maintain a high level of integrity.
Bearing that in mind, the minister urged civil servants to continue to enhance the government's performance by maintaining integrity and staying true to the commitment to creating a clean and corruption-free working environment.
"That way, we can maintain public trust as well as the reputation of the Ministry of Transportation," he remarked.
He then expressed hope that the Transportation Ministry would continue to ensure collaboration among its central and regional units while boosting synergy with other state institutions to strengthen supervision and thwart corrupt acts.
"It is also necessary to start echoing anti-corruption values to cadets studying at transportation schools under the ministry's BPSDM (Human Resource Development Agency) as an effort to instill anti-corruption behaviors at the earliest," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Transportation Ministry's Inspector General Arif Toha noted that the ministry was making the most of this year's World Anti-Corruption Day to solidify synergy and collaboration with various parties.
He noted that the Transportation Ministry has signed memoranda of understanding with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), Center for Financial Transaction Report and Analysis (PPATK), and Ombudsman of Indonesia.
He further remarked that the commemorative event also featured an awarding ceremony for the ministry's units, both at the central and regional levels, for their concrete commitment to battling corruption.
The Transportation Ministry's Inspectorate General also used the occasion to launch the Gratification Reporting Information System (SIAGA) and hold competitions with an anti-corruption theme.
