Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on Thursday, revealed that he had not been instructed to start working from the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, currently being developed in East Kalimantan Province.

Amin made the statement in response to a related question from journalists following President Joko Widodo's plan to begin working from IKN in July this year.

"The president might start working from there (Nusantara). However, a decision has yet to be made whether I will work from there or stay in Jakarta," he remarked during the inauguration of the 2024 Independence Festival of a community job training center in Tangerang, Banten.

He emphasized that the government had yet to discuss the possibility of him working from Indonesia's future capital city.

"We have yet to talk about my possible transfer to IKN," he stated.

Earlier, during the inauguration ceremony for the development of several buildings in Nusantara's financial district on February 29, President Widodo disclosed his plan to start working from the new capital in July.

He explained that he would be stationed in Nusantara once the construction process of a VVIP airport and toll road concluded.

The operations of the transportation facility and infrastructure will make Nusantara reachable within 15 minutes from the airport, he noted.

The president further underlined that the existence of the toll road would cut travel time from the neighboring city of Balikpapan to Nusantara, from around two hours to only about 45 minutes.

“We truly expect that the toll road and airport will make the traffic from the airport to IKN much busier,” he stated on a different occasion while breaking ground for state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia's (BNI’s) office in Nusantara.

The Indonesian government has set the target of commencing government activities in Nusantara City on August 17 this year, coinciding with the 79th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Indonesia.
