Head of the Sterilization Sub-task Force of Operation Puri Agung 2024 Senior Commissioner Hari Muharram said that Polri's K-9 Detachment has been tasked with sterilizing the venues for the upcoming global forum.
"The 39 K-9 sniffer dogs were deployed from the Polri's Headquarters, Bali Regional Police, West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, and also East Java Regional Police," he informed in a written statement received here on Wednesday.
According to Muharram, the sniffer dogs have the capability to track down a range of suspicious items and persons.
"The dogs we deployed are able to sniff explosives in order to conduct sterilization," he added.
The police officer said that the sterilization mission is focused on the locations that will be visited by delegates attending the World Water Forum, especially VVIP and VIP guests.
"They (the K-9 Detachment) will work in synergy with various parties, particularly the Paspampres (Presidential Security Guard), to conduct sterilization in VVIP and VIP areas during the World Water Forum," he informed.
He added that the K-9 dogs, along with 92 handlers, are also carrying out sterilization at Bali's Gilimanuk Port, East Java's Ketapang Port, and West Nusa Tenggara's Lembar Port.
"We have stationed K-9 dogs and personnel in Bali's border (buffer) zones to conduct sterilization. This measure is meant to prevent irresponsible parties from disrupting activities of the World Water Forum," he explained.
Muharram expressed the hope that the sterilization mission would help the police detect potential threats and ensure the smooth running of the forum.
"Hopefully, the K-9 dogs will be able to detect potential threats in the field. We hope that everything will run safely without any disruptions," he added.
