Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia gives equal weightage to human and economic development priorities, according to the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

As stated by the ministry's Deputy for Human, Social, and Cultural Development, Amich Alhumami, good human development will ensure quality human resources for economic and infrastructure development.

"The concept of human development stipulated in the 2025-2045 National Long-term Development Plan equally emphasizes the centrality of human development with economic development," Alhumami remarked here on Thursday.

He noted that the ministry's human development strategies cover early-age education and nutrition for children, vocational and tertiary education, and proficiency in science and technology.

Apart from facilitating better self-development, people who received early-age education are proven to have a higher likelihood of receiving better wages once they turned adults and joined the workforce, he highlighted.

"PISA studies also concluded that children who enrolled at early-age education institutions even for only one year have a better PISA score than children who are not enrolled at all," the ministry's official stated.

Alhumami drew attention to another research showing that stunting in children has an impact on their capability to study in schools.

He cited President Joko Widodo's statement that the government is exerting its resources to develop quality and advanced human resources by helping children to improve their health and nutrition.

"Improving children's nutrition is important, including to prevent stunted growth," he added.

Hence, investing in early education and children's nutrition will be better for Indonesia's human development in the long run, he affirmed.

Alhumami also expressed hope that all stakeholders share the same goal as the government on the human development aspect to realize the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision.
