Jakarta (ANTARA) - MRT Jakarta will extend its operating hours for the 2024 Jakarta International Marathon (Jakim) on Sunday (June 23) to ensure public transportation access.

MRT Jakarta's spokesperson Ahmad Pratomo stated on Saturday that the mass rapid transit system will operate from 4:00 a.m. to midnight.

This is an extension of the usual schedule, which runs from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The first trains will depart Blok M BCA at 4:05 a.m. and Lebak Bulus Grab at 4:07 a.m., with trains departing every 10 minutes.

The Jakarta government will also close 36 roads along the marathon route from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Sixteen alternative routes will be available for those needing access to the Sudirman-Thamrin area during the marathon. Traffic control measures will begin at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Jakim 2024 starts at the Monas North West Cross and finishes at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Senayan Main Stadium.

The Jakarta government has deployed 2,435 personnel from the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) for the international event.

Jakim 2024 is being held by the local government and state-owned Bank Tabungan Negara.

Jakarta's Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated that Jakim 2024 commemorates the 497th Jakarta Anniversary and aims to further develop the city as a "sports tourism" destination.

The event is expected to have a positive economic impact on both Jakarta and Indonesia.
