Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo held a meeting with several ministers on Thursday to discuss the utilization of revitalized stadiums, arenas, and sports venues across Indonesia.

"In today's internal meeting, we discussed the utilization of revitalization of stadiums and also arenas and sports venues throughout Indonesia," Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, informed at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.

According to him, the meeting also discussed plans to re-organize League 3 and 4 football, as well as efforts to improve the role of district/city governments and support the development of football and other sports in the National Sports Grand Design (DBON).

Ariotedjo said that since early 2023, at least 22 stadiums have been revitalized by the central government with a capacity of more than 25 thousand.

"In the future, President Jokowi asks for a better utilization of the stadium by the clubs. So usually the stadiums are managed by the local government. In the future, it will be developed to be managed by the private sector, namely the club occupies the stadium," the minister explained.

He said that a legal certainty would be prepared for this transition.

Sports arenas and other sports venues built by the central government in regions will also be open for utilization, he added.

"This aims to ensure that the existing sports facilities and sports venues can be commercialized with a more dynamic and flexible management. We want to build the sports industry and lighten the burden of management through the state budget and regional budget," Ariotedjo said.

Regarding League 3 and 4, a directive from the Home Affairs Ministry will be issued to allow regions to support the League 3 and 4 competitions, plus sports branches in DBON.

"This also aims to encourage early age development of regional and national athletes, not only for football but other sports as well. This step is also intended to strengthen the development of our athletes to the national and international levels," the minister said.
