Jakarta (ANTARA) - President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to make Kazakhstan a safe and comfortable place to live in.

According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Jakarta on Thursday, Tokayev emphasized that the state’s primary task is improving the well-being of the people.

“We have a clear vision of our state’s long-term development. To achieve our goals, we must uphold unity, mutual support, and respect,” he said.

He highlighted recent legislative accomplishments for combating human trafficking and child protection, adding that new laws have been introduced to strengthen punishments for violence against women and children.

Tokayev will also focus on political reforms, socioeconomic transformation, and comprehensive measures for human rights protection to build a just society.

“Therefore, we will continue pursuing reforms and systematic work in this direction,” he said, adding that the transition to direct elections for village, district, and local governors will be fully implemented by next year.

The President then emphasized the importance of strengthening the country’s workforce and called for the development of a unified package for basic state health services.

He also advocated for improving the environmental situation, including the implementation of a nationwide reforestation movement.

“Forest regeneration is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and ensuring the country’s continued sustainable socioeconomic progress,” he explained.

Tokayev also emphasized the need to address imbalances between monetary and fiscal policies, especially through tax reforms and improving the investment climate.

“We need a new law on banks that meets the urgent tasks of stimulating economic activity and further dynamic development of the fintech sector,” he said.

He stressed that it is important to foster a stable and business-friendly tax policy and accelerate the transition of tax processes to an electronic format to mitigate corruption risks and ensure transparency.

He revealed that infrastructure development, especially in the energy and transport sectors, has been identified as a key priority and underscored the importance of modernizing the energy and utility sectors, improving the condition of highways, and developing air hubs.

Tokayev informed that he is planning to integrate artificial intelligence into the e-government platform and establish a National AI Center in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana next year.

He further said that the upcoming nationwide referendum on October 6, 2024, on the construction of a nuclear plant will be another manifestation of a broad national dialogue and a vivid example of the implementation of the concept of a “listening state.”

“By taking such steps, we are forming a new sociopolitical culture and establishing new standards for making key state decisions,” the President added.

Regarding foreign policy, the President reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to a peaceful and balanced approach, stressing that “Kazakhstan convincingly demonstrates its commitment to broad multilateral cooperation, in full accordance with the UN Charter.”
