"We have met with all (social media) platforms. It has been agreed that the platforms will actively mitigate hoaxes next week or in the next two weeks," Kominfo's Director General of Public Information and Communication, Prabu Revolusi, remarked here on Friday.
During a media gathering event at the Kominfo building, he highlighted that the government involves related platforms to actively tag content containing false information, especially related to Pilkada.
According to Revolusi, Kominfo has invited YouTube, Meta, TikTok, Google, and X platform managers to help the government handle hoaxes related to the 2024 Pilkada.
Revolusi expected that through cooperation, the circulation of hoaxes could be prevented or handled quickly.
He remarked that the names of candidates contesting in Pilkada will be tagged on the platforms.
"(This is) so the information related to these candidates will be supervised," he remarked.
"There will be a special team to monitor hundreds of regional head candidates in Pilkada, so misinformation or hoaxes can be responded to faster," he revealed.
Kominfo also plans to form an Anti-Hoax Task Force to supervise the information circulating on social media and tackle the distribution of negative content in order to realize a democratic, safe, and peaceful regional election.
Indonesians will elect their governors, mayors, and district heads during the nationwide regional elections on November 27, 2024. The elections will be held across 37 provinces, 415 districts, and 93 cities.
Furthermore, in order to support security during Pilkada, the National Police (Polri) has also prepared several strategies to anticipate real-world and cyber threats.
