Solo (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo on Monday reviewed preparations for the 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo, Central Java province.

"Today, we held a coordination meeting at the initiative of Mr. Home Affairs Minister (Tito Karnavian), Peparnas Joint Committee, Indonesian National Paralympics Committee chairman (Senny Marbun), and the Public Work and Public Housing Ministry," he said after the meeting.

He affirmed that Solo is all set to host the 27th Peparnas following its success in hosting the 11th ASEAN Para Games (APG) in 2022.

"Solo just hosted the APG a couple of years ago. Thus, the venues are still in an excellent and well-maintained condition. This is because Solo is the center for the development of para sports," he said.

He added that the committee only needs to deal with some technical matters to reach 100-percent readiness.

Speaking of the budget, the minister said that the Ministry of Finance has allocated a budget of Rp215 billion (US$14.1 million) for the multi-sport event.

"Meanwhile, according to the Youth and Sports Ministry's Budget Implementation Checklist (DIPA), we have secured Rp75 billion since last year. Hence, a budget totaling Rp290 billion (US$19 million) has been prepared," he added.

Earlier, the Indonesian National Paralympics Committee decided to designate Central Java as the new host for the national event following the withdrawal of the initial host, North Sumatra, which conveyed its decision during a limited meeting attended by President Joko Widodo on June 13.

Ariotedjo had earlier revealed that based on the plan, this year's Peparnas will take place at 14 venues in Solo and three venues in Boyolali, Sukoharjo, and Karanganyar from October 6–17.
