Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Budi Arie Setiadi arrived at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in Central Jakarta to discuss the construction of national data centers (PDN).

Arriving in a brown batik on Friday at 2:10 p.m. local time, the minister waved to reporters while keeping mum on the meeting's details before heading to the venue.

Setiadi's deputy, Nezar Patria, and Kominfo Ministry's Director General of Applications and Informatics Hokky Situngkir were also spotted at the location.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto affirmed that the government had made significant progress in the development of a PDN in Bekasi, West Java, and is preparing to develop another two in Batam and Indonesia's future capital city, Nusantara.

"We will beef up data security by applying advanced encryption and putting multi-layered security in place," the minister remarked during a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday (September 23).

Tjahjanto said the data centers to be operated by a public service agency under the Kominfo Ministry are designed to strengthen Indonesia's data capacity and help the government consolidate national development.

The minister then informed attending lawmakers that construction work of the PDN in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, had progressed to 83 percent. The data center is targeted to commence operations in 2026.

He revealed that the government is currently choosing supervisory consultants for the planned PDN in Batam, Riau Islands.

"Meanwhile, the third PDN will be constructed in an area in Nusantara currently being prepared by the IKN Authority," he remarked.

Furthermore, Tjahjanto assured legislators that the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) is involved in every development phase of the new data centers.
