The Braille templates will be in a form similar to the envelope that contains ballots to help the visually impaired cast their vote, KPU chairperson Mochammad Afifuddin said in Pasuruan, East Java, on Thursday.
"We will ensure that all polling stations in the Pilkada will have the assistance tools," he added while visiting a factory that produces ballots and Braille templates for the visually impaired.
According to him, the Braille template provision is part of the KPU's efforts to assist voters in casting votes.
"Do not get mistaken, the ballots are all the same; it is just that there will be templates of Braille letters for (visually impaired voters) to make them easier to read," he said.
He also praised the printing factory for producing the Braille templates, as not all KPU partners can produce such templates.
Lukat, the CEO of the factory, said that the assistance tool for visually impaired voters was first produced in 2019.
"We produce the assistance tools for 57 districts/cities. Each of them gets one tool," he informed.
Lukat said that during the 2024 Pilkada, his side will produce 20.4 million ballots for 57 districts/cities in 11 provinces, including North Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua Pegunungan, and Riau Islands.
During his visit to East Java, Afifuddin went to two locations — one in Surabaya city and another one in Pasuruan district — where Pilkada ballots are produced.
The two facilities are among the KPU's partners who produce and supply ballots to some regions of the country, including South Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, Central Papua, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.
