Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed pride over the Maung SUV domestically produced by state-owned defense manufacturer PT Pindad while directing his ministers and staff to adopt these vehicles for official use.

"Mr. Prabowo uses it as a presidential car, and he is proud of Pindad's production. He indeed instructed ministers, deputy ministers, and heads of agencies to also use the same official cars," head of the Presidential Communications Office Hasan Nasbi stated here on Wednesday.

However, Hasan revealed that details regarding the model and quantity of Maung vehicles to be allocated as ministerial transport are still being determined, as the government is currently in the planning phase of this initiative.

"I do not know the total (number) yet, exactly. Maybe later. The plan will go through stages," he added.

According to Nasbi, relevant ministries would manage the procurement of Maung SUV as vehicles for official use by cabinet ministers and heads of agencies.

"The details are certainly not mine to reveal. It will be managed by the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Ministry of Finance," he said.

President Director of PT Pindad Abraham Mose has earlier expressed readiness to produce the SUV for official use, as instructed by Prabowo.

We must be capable, as the facilities and supporting infrastructure will definitely be prepared. In principle, Pindad has already started production, and the products are ready for use," he remarked, referring to the MV3 Garuda Limousine used by Prabowo after his presidential swearing-in ceremony on October 20, 2024.

He did not furnish details on the number of cars to be prepared for Prabowo's ministers and officials.

Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Anggito Abimanyu stated that President Prabowo has instructed all ministers and echelon 1 officials to use the Maung SUV.

"Next week, I will use the Maung car, the Pindad-made car," he stated during an event to mark the 15th anniversary of Gadjah Mada University's Vocational School in Yogyakarta on Monday (October 28).

He highlighted President Prabowo's keenness to end the use of imported cars as government vehicles during his term.
