Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will temporarily assume presidential duties as head of government while President Prabowo Subianto travels abroad to attend the APEC Summit in Peru and G20 Summit in Brazil next week.

"The vice president carries out the president's duties as head of government when the president is abroad," head of the Presidential Communications Office Hasan Nasbi noted here on Wednesday.

Hasan elaborated that this transfer of duties follows established precedent from previous administrations, although there is no legal instrument governing the temporary assumption of presidential duties by the vice president during the president's international travel.

He explained that the delegation of duties had been carried out since the previous presidents.

"That is how it has always been. When the president is abroad, the vice president carries out the president's duties. There is no need for legal instruments," he stated.

Prabowo will make his first overseas working visit as Indonesian president next week to attend the APEC summit scheduled in Peru on November 10-16, 2024.

He will continue his overseas agenda by participating in the 19th G20 Summit on November 18-19, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
