Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Digital Affairs Deputy Minister Nezar Patria has emphasized the significant role of investment in the digital sector to achieve President Prabowo Subianto's eight percent economic growth target.

"Digital transformation is key, and every investment we make in the ICT (information and communication technology) sector brings us one step closer to a strong and more independent economy," Patria said here on Monday.

He revealed that the potential for investment in the digital sector, especially ICT, in Indonesia was also calculated by the consulting firm Kearney in 2022.

Kearney's report showed that if Indonesia manages to double its investment in the ICT sector, then, by 2030, the investment could drive national gross domestic product (GDP) growth by up to one percent.

According to Patria, if investment in ICT is pursued and increased, Indonesia would see a positive impact in several sectors, including opening up jobs and innovation.

"Growth is more than just a number; it can create a leap in economic resilience, great opportunities in job creation, and a foundation for local innovation," he explained.

Still, he said that to increase investment in the digital sector, Indonesia is still facing challenges, including the gap in digital access between urban and rural areas.

To overcome these challenges, the Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry has prepared a digital transformation vision with four pillars that will be strengthened, he added. The pillars are — digital economy, digital society, digital government, and digital infrastructure.

The strengthening of these pillars, he informed, will be carried out in the next five years to accommodate the long-term plan to achieve the Vision of Digital Indonesia 2045.

"Each of these pillars builds on each other to form an empowering and interconnected ecosystem that is important to achieve a trusted and strong digital realm," Patria said.
